LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR COMMENDATION
Captain Anna Brown Central Police Station
766 Vallejo St. San Francisco, CA 94133
February 25, 2010
Re: Exemplary Job
Performance by Patrol Special Police Officer
Robert Burns
Dear Captain Brown:
Recent news media coverage and information
provided by our Glen Park Patrol Special Officer
Calvin and other sources, have brought to our
attention the exemplary performance of Officer
Cal’s colleague, Officer Robert Burns, in
handling suspects who were shooting outside of
Suede nightclub the morning of Sunday, February
7.
We understand that Officer Burns was
on duty when he noted and subdued two men who
were shooting and continuing to shoot, and that
when the SFPD officers arrived on the scene, one
suspect was on the ground pinned by Officer
Burns, but continued to struggle.
Officer
Burns apparently exercised excellent, quick and
professional judgment to protect the public
from additional injury and possible death, with
little regard for his own personal safety.
While the duty of Patrol Special Police
Officers are not to engage in intensive law
enforcement, we believe he acted properly with
regard to his responsibilities and commitment to
preserve the public safety.
We believe
his performance deserves your sincere
consideration of recommending for Officer Burns
the highest honor we understand that the
S.F.P.D. offers, the Gold Medal of Valor.
Sincerely (name and contact information)
