ABOUT US
Crime and disturbances are not funny. However, once in a
while in order to lighten the
discussion of an otherwise 'heavy' topic, we like to
refer to certain examples as prime opportunities for
citizens to hire a Patrol Special Police Officer to help
in their community. In a more serious vein, officers
know about local health, housing, and counseling
resources, and they can and do make referrals to protect
everyone's welfare and wellbeing (plus they know the
locations of nearby veterinarians with specialization in
behavior modification for our
misbehaving feathered, furry, and porker friends.).
Our program operates in an old-fashioned,
grass-roots, volunteer way, with folks who care about safety
stepping up to attend steering committee meetings and pitch in
to help promote, administer, or set up safety programs as
needed. Not every one can afford to subscribe and pay money for
patrols, but some contribute by their volunteer
efforts--everyone is welcome and any kind of contribution is
welcome!
Our "provisional" steering
committee is voluntary. Let us know if you wish to
attend and observe or participate, as our meetings are
open. Meetings are help monthly or quarterly, are well
organized with an agenda sent out in advance, and
limited to 1.5 hrs. of discussion as a rule. Our
leadership rotates; the host of each regular meeting
calls the meeting to order, prepares the agenda, and
writes up minutes which we keep in our files.
We have a small petty cash fund and
a small inventory of
products for which we take donations
(canvass bag, magnets, pens, and logo t-shirts).
Sometimes we
appoint sub-committees such as the Glen Park Street Festival Sub
Committee; if you can help out with the Festival, please let us
know since we are now organizing our
Sunday, April 25 booth presentation
and staffing plan.
Our present steering committee is
composed of these regular members: Ben and Irene Benjamin, Ron
Choy, Judith Davidson, Sue Free, Ann Grogan, Ken King, Mary Spellman, and Chris Vandervert. We also consult
with Alexis Shoemate, and Laura and Justin Smith, who are a bit too
busy to attend meetings, but help out with individual projects
from time to time. Please let us
know if you wish to become a
consultant to the program, attend meetings, or help with events
this year. |
