Prepared from daily incident reports by our Patrol Special Police Officers, the Captain’s crime reports Ingleside District, and from other reliable sources in Glen Park.  The Omega Group has launched, on the web, a new version of crime mapping covering the past 30 days. Note that it changes former reporting boundaries and the longer 90 day report previously available:   www.crimemapping.com

In order to obtain a complete view of crime in Glen Park it is important to recognize that SFPD statistics have some limitations, including under-reporting and mis-categorization. See,  Department Records - 79779762 .  In addition, there are numerous calls reported to the police where an SFPD officer becomes involved, but no formal record is made or statistic is reported (perhaps the witness did not want to step forward, or the disturbing incident was handled without report and without becoming a formal 'crime'). You may view those kinds of incidents here: http://www.everyblock.com  Finally, for a number of years Patrol Special Police are prohibited by city regulation from reporting incidents and crimes to their local SFPD district office, concerning incidents or crimes that they alone handle. There does not appear to be a sound reason to have those excluded when it comes to full disclosure of what actually exists in Glen Park, and steps need to be taken to see about changing that limitation. Considering the above, it is clear that crime is definitely underreported.

Finally, please note that we do not include here crimes or incidents taking place in the near-by areas of Diamond Heights, Noe Valley, or the Mission, unless they show a distinct connection to or encroachment with respect to Glen Park. There are a number of crimes just outside our neighborhood; check the Captain's crime log for details regarding the entire Ingleside district statistics.

March 16 - J Church stop at Hwy 280 in Glen Park, 4:30 pm - I take MUNI/BART almost everywhere, not having owned a car for seven years. In overcast daylight I walked to the J Church stop across Hwy 280. Because I know thugs are out and about Glen Park, I did not carry my purse but carried a fanny pack hidden beneath a heavy sweater and coat. I walked across the overpass and down the stairs, seeing two groups of youth standing around talking loudly. I became very wary and at that point, should have just backtracked and taken BART. I decided to proceed. I smiled as I passed the first group and headed to stand inside the windbreak next to the seats where the second group was seated. I proceeded to read some materials I carried with me when a young Black man with hoodie came to stand about 3 feet square in front of me. He 'cased' me up and down and apparently seeing no purse and nothing worth attacking, he returned to his seat. I half hid my pepper spray inside my coat pocket not wanting to precipitate a confrontation, but being ready and alert. I strongly suggest that we not use this bus stop at all, especially do not carry a visible purse, wallet, or electronic device that can be easily stolen.
